SMS Compliance
ParentQA is an SMS service operated by K12 Assist LLC. This page explains how participants opt in, how ParentQA messages are delivered, and how participants can stop messages or request help.
Business & Program Overview
- Legal Entity
- K12 Assist LLC
- Brand / Service Name
- ParentQA
- Website
- ParentQA.com
- Participants
- ParentQA is designed for adult participants only: prospective parents, current parents, and school administrators or enrollment officers.
- Program Purpose
- ParentQA enables adults to ask and answer school-specific questions through SMS conversations. The service is intended primarily to help prospective parents learn from current parents about a school's community, culture, and day-to-day experience. ParentQA does not use this messaging program to send unrelated marketing or promotional messages.
- Method of SMS Opt-In
- Participants voluntarily opt in through the ParentQA.com web form. SMS consent is not preselected.
Who Can Participate
- Prospective Parents
- A prospective parent may access the ParentQA opt-in form directly or through a school-specific ParentQA link. When the school is already identified by the link, the school information is supplied automatically.
- Current Parents
- Current parents are invitation-only participants. An administrator creates a secure ParentQA invitation through ParentLead. The invitation identifies a school and Current Parent role. A person cannot make themselves a Current Parent participant simply by selecting that role on a public form.
- School Administrators / Enrollment Officers
- School administrators and enrollment officers are also invitation-only participants. Their secure ParentQA invitation identifies both the school and the authorized Administrator role.
One SMS Opt-In Method
The only method for consenting to ParentQA SMS messages is the ParentQA.com web form found in the header of this page. Participants may reach the same form through different authorized entry paths, but SMS consent is collected through the same ParentQA form.
Each participant provides their name, email address, and mobile number through the ParentQA form and must affirmatively check an SMS consent checkbox to authorize SMS messages. The checkbox is unchecked by default. Submitting the form without checking the box does not authorize ParentQA SMS messages.
ParentQA records the participant's consent status, name, email address, mobile number, date and time of the submission, participant type, applicable school, and the version of the consent language presented.
If a participant submits the form without checking the SMS consent box, ParentQA records the submission but does not initiate an SMS conversation.
How ParentQA Messages Are Delivered
ParentQA acts as the messaging intermediary for each school-specific conversation.
After a participant has opted in and received the initial ParentQA connection message, replies are sent to the ParentQA telephone number assigned to that conversation.
The ParentQA application receives, records, and relays participant messages. When a participant replies, ParentQA identifies the sender and the applicable conversation, records the message, and relays it to the other authorized participants in that conversation.
Messages are therefore not sent directly from one participant's personal mobile number to another participant's personal mobile number. ParentQA manages the routing, and participants' personal mobile numbers are not disclosed to one another.
A ParentQA conversation may include an opted-in prospective parent, an opted-in current parent, and an opted-in school administrator. Only participants authorized for that specific conversation receive its relayed messages.
